  AMPLATZER® Duct Occluder II

The AMPLATZER® Duct Occluder II (ADO II) for Patent Ductus Arteriosus utilizes Nitinol, a shape memory alloy of nickel and titanium. Each Occluder is made of a multi-layered, flexible, Nitinol wire mesh shaped into a cylindrical waist with retention discs on either end to secure it in the PDA. Fabric-free technology, which allows for low-profile devices and delivery systems, creates superior deliverability and expanded procedural options. The AMPLATZER Duct Occluder II can treat all classifications1, 2 of PDAs from 5.5 mm to less than 2.5 mm in diameter.

NOTE: This device is delivered using the AMPLATZER TorqVue LP Delivery System.

AMPLATZER® Duct Occluder

The AMPLATZER® Duct Occluder for Patent Ductus Arteriosus also utilizes Nitinol, a shape memory alloy of nickel and titanium. Each Occluder is made of a Nitinol wire mesh shaped into a cylindrical plug with a flared collar to secure the Duct Occluder in the PDA. Polyester fabric inserts help close the hole and provide a foundation for growth of tissue over the occluder after placement.

The placement procedure typically takes place in a special room called a catheterization laboratory (“cath lab”) where minimally invasive, non-surgical procedures are performed. The AMPLATZER Duct Occluder is delivered to the correct place in the heart through a catheter, a small plastic tube, by an interventional cardiologist using x-ray and echocardiography. The physician deploys the occluder within the defect, where it expands, closing off the PDA.
